Only small styling changes took place this year. The 1972 models were almost identical to the 1971 models. It was this year that performance gave way to economy.

The last Boss model, the Boss 351 and both versions of the 429 engine were dropped. During the early part of 1972, a special 351HO model was offered. It featured a low compression version of the Boss 351 engine.

The Mach 1 and the Grande were offered this year virtually unchanged from 1971.
